Your Questions Answered
WHAT IS LOFT INSULATION?
We use Instafibre multi - contract loft quilt available in 100mm, 150mm, 170mm & 200mm thicknesses in widths to suit most joist spaces.
HOW IS LOFT INSULATION INSTALLED?
Usually two installers roll the material out in either a single lay inside the joists or if 250mm + depth is required it is cross laid to prevent a cold bridge in accordance with the BBA guidelines.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Loft insulation usually takes between one - two hours to install but the time does depend on the size of the house and other factors, such as access.
IS MY HOUSE SUITABLE?
Before the installation, we will undertake an assessment of your property to confirm that it is suitable for insulation. This assessment may be undertaken by a surveyor or technician before installation.
DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING BEFORE THE INSTALLATION?
Unless otherwise agreed our installers will insulate loft spaces previously emptied, with good access and safe ceiling areas. It is important that these things have been arranged prior to our appointment.
IS THERE MUCH MESS?
All installers carry dust sheets and will only split the bags of material whilst in the loft space so little or no mess is created.
ARE ALL SYSTEMS OF INSULATION THE SAME?
There are several different types of insulation available. We have chosen InstaFibre quilt. All systems of insulation have been tested, assessed and approved by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) or the British Standards Institution (BSI).
ARE THE TECHNICIANS TRAINED?
All technicians undergo training by the system supplier and ourselves to ensure they are competent in insulating with our products.
WILL MY HOUSE BE WARMER?
Yes - if your heating is not controlled by a thermostat. However, if you have a thermostat, it will cut out the heating at the same temperature, so you may not notice the difference in the room with the thermostat. However, you should find that the temperature in other parts of your house improves, for example, the small bedroom in the corner.
With loft insulation, you should find that the house holds its temperature for longer, therefore the time between heating cycles may be longer. The result should be a more even temperature throughout the house and/or a reduced fuel bill.
HOW LONG WILL THE INSULATION LAST?
Loft insulation degrades (shrinks) over time so it is advisable to have the depth checked out every ten years or so.
